Meet Mickey

My name is Mickey Moore. I was born in South Minneapolis, and I have lived here my whole life. I am a husband, father, homeowner, and business leader. As the son of a single mother, I am also the product of the many city programs and services that helped to nurture me as a child, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Pillsbury House, and the YMCA.

In 1996, I founded The Braid Factory, which began the professional, natural hair care salon industry in Minnesota. This year, The Braid Factory will celebrate its 25th anniversary as the area’s most popular hair braiding establishment, with more than 300,000 customers served. As a result, I have gainfully employed hundreds of people, including those from chronically underserved communities.

In 2020, I was motivated by the tragic murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer to run for U.S. Congress, receiving more votes than any independent congressional candidate in the country.

Since that time, I have spent the last year talking with and listening to 9th Ward residents and business owners about the many concerns and issues facing our community. Although individual problems are as diverse as our neighborhoods, one common theme that emerged is the lack of responsive leadership from our elected officials.

As a lifelong, progressive, pragmatic Democrat, I am running to represent the 9th Ward on the Minneapolis City Council, because I believe move than ever our city needs an attentive, experienced, and professional leader who has a proven track record of turning significant obstacles into real accomplishments. I am that leader.
