Mickey Moore Issues Statement on City Council’s
Decision on East Phillips Urban Farm Initiative
"For more than a year, I have been an ardent supporter of the development of the East Phillips Urban Farm initiative. Aside from addressing many of the critical issues facing the 9th Ward, including affordable housing, economic development and environmental justice, this innovative project also specifically addresses indigenous land rights and community-led programming, which have often been dismissed by local government officials.
"While advocating for the East Phillips Urban Farm initiative, I have been fortunate to learn directly from Ward 9 residents and business owners just how much they fully support this life-changing project, which is why the blatant disregard for the desires of the local community by elected officials has been disheartening and shameful.
“I believe there is still reason to be optimistic about the East Phillips Urban Farm initiative until the former Roof Depot site has been demolished. As the next City Council member for Ward 9, I pledge to use my jurisdictional power and collaborative influence to work with both new and incumbent representatives to find a solution that addresses both the historic injustice that has plagued this area, as well as the innovative opportunities that are so readily attainable."
