Minneapolis City Council Candidate Mickey Moore
Issues Statement on New Language for Public Safety Ballot Initiative
“Yesterday, Hennepin County Judge Jamie Anderson made the right decision to strike down the Minneapolis City Council’s proposed wording to explain the Yes 4 Minneapolis ballot initiative, which will ask voters in November to replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a Department of Public Safety.
"According to Judge Anderson, the proposed language was ‘vague, ambiguous, and incapable of implementation, and is insufficient to identify the amendment clearly.' She went on to say the wording was 'unreasonable and misleading.’
“It is my hope that it will not go unnoticed by voters that it took Judge Anderson’s ruling to force our City Council to work together to come up with new language for the ballot initiative that all voters will be able to understand on Election Day.
“As a City Council candidate for Ward 9, I am in favor of providing full transparency on both the pros and cons of all ballot initiatives, because voters must be able to make informed decisions about the future of our city.
“The city of Minneapolis is in the middle of a public safety crisis. Voters want more transparency and responsive government, not less. Now is not the time for voters to make decisions about the future of our city for generations to come in a vacuum.”
