Minneapolis City Council candidate for the Ninth Ward, on withdrawal of Star Tribune endorsement.

Statement by Mickey Moore.

October 22, 2021

The voters of the 9th Ward have a clear choice in the race for the City Council. I have run on a clear and forceful platform of restoring public safety to our neighborhoods as a fundamental prerequisite of restoring prosperity to our community.

I’m a longtime resident and businessperson in south Minneapolis. I also fully satisfy the residency requirement in the 9th Ward to run for the City Council. Political opponents have been creating false doubts about this clear and simple fact in a desperate attempt to smear me and distract attention from the urgency and power of my public safety agenda.

I’m saddened that the Star Tribune editorial board has fallen for these distracting and irrelevant attacks. But the fact remains that the ultimate endorsement that really matters is the vote of the people. As I have campaigned throughout the 9th Ward, I am encouraged everyday by the support I receive from people of every background and status who are fed up with the blind-eye turned to violence and crime occurring in our neighborhoods and the wrongheaded ideas held by other candidates.

I ask 9th Ward voters to elect the next City Councilmember on the strength of my ideas and proven record of achievement for the community, not on the smears leveled in the closing days of the campaign.
